What is Dental Sedation?
Dental anxiety is common, and can lead many people to put off receiving the vital dental care that they need and deserve. At Pacifica Dental our we strive to make dental care comfortable for all of our patients. In some cases, dental sedation can be used to help.
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to help patients feel more comfortable during dental procedures. Our dentists can work with you to determine whether a dental sedation option is right for you.
In addition to offering sedation options, our team at Pacifica Dental will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the mouth and nose. The medication calms patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and may even help to make time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist. The medication is taken orally in advance of your dental appointment. It leaves you awake for the procedure, but produces a calming effect to significantly relax you throughout your treatment.
